One byline today. The design assumes more, which is why entries carry revision histories rather than authors' names in the title.
Writes and maintains everything currently published here. Also writes in a first-person capacity at byrxj.com, which is a separate publication with no shared text.
Published guest work appears under Contributions, which is deliberately a separate section: a contribution carries a byline and answers to the same evidence standard as a canon entry, and it is not one. Entries are numbered, unsigned in the title, and maintained by the editor. A contribution enters the canon only if somebody rewrites it as an entry, which is a decision rather than a promotion path.
Writing for the canon
A canon entry is not a guest post. It joins a numbered reference, it gets revised when somebody learns it was wrong, and the revision history is public with the reasons attached. That is a different commitment from publishing an article, and it is worth being clear about before anyone starts.
- You must currently operate. The same rule as the room, for the same reason.
- Entries are maintained, not archived. Contributing one means being willing to be told it needs changing, and occasionally being the person who changes it.
- Every factual claim needs a primary source or a stated basis in observation. “In our experience” is acceptable and has to be labelled as such rather than dressed as a measurement.
- No vendor material and no pieces about your own product. This is not negotiable and it is the most common reason a pitch does not go anywhere.
What is paid
Nothing yet, and that is stated plainly rather than left vague. Commissioned pieces for the print edition will be paid when the print edition exists, because asking operators to write for exposure is exactly the arrangement this publication exists to avoid.
