Writing for the canon
A canon entry is not a guest post. It joins a numbered reference, it gets revised when somebody learns it was wrong, and the revision history is public with the reasons attached. That is a different commitment from publishing an article, and it is worth being clear about before anyone starts.
- You must currently operate. The same rule as the room, for the same reason.
- Entries are maintained, not archived. Contributing one means being willing to be told it needs changing, and occasionally being the person who changes it.
- Every factual claim needs a primary source or a stated basis in observation. “In our experience” is acceptable and has to be labelled as such rather than dressed as a measurement.
- No vendor material and no pieces about your own product. This is not negotiable and it is the most common reason a pitch does not go anywhere.
What is paid
Nothing yet, and that is stated plainly rather than left vague. Commissioned pieces for the print edition will be paid when the print edition exists, because asking operators to write for exposure is exactly the arrangement this publication exists to avoid.
